Issue No 20 - Tuesday 12 May 2020

SORRY I Love Lampooning ‘Yokes

EDITORIAL
This issue was delayed by one day so that I could comment on the news from our Victorian State Premier, Dan Andrews.
We now know that, as from Wednesday (tomorrow), we are able to have small family gatherings and small sporting-type activities. So loved ones can again be a part of our lives. Does this mean babysitting?
The recent testing of 161,000 Victorians produced 30 positive results – to prove that the insidious virus is still out there among us. Those 30 people did not know that they had the virus – until they did the test, and got the result.
It does mean that the “Silly” will continue, at least until the end of May – access to material permitting.
Be good and stay safe.

RUBY TRANSFORMATION

A reader has submitted photos of the transformation of Ruby – pre-C19 and now. Ruby is currently not a fan of cold weather.

THERAPEUTIC IDEA FROM A READER

To take the edge of self-isolation I bought a facial disguise to wear. When I feel a bit down I put it on and go to the bathroom look in the mirror and have a long conversation with a complete stranger. I do all the talking.

MAYBE NEIL DIAMOND

Maybe check these out:

IDLE THOUGHTS

·         Do twins, triplets, etc. ever realize that only one of them was planned?
·         What if my dog only brings back my ball because he thinks I like throwing it?
·         If poisons had an expiry date; are they more poisonous or no longer poisonous, after the expiry date is reached?
·         In the word "scent" which letter is silent the “S” or the “C”?
·         In the English language, why is the letter “W”  called double U? Shouldn't it be called double V?
·         Could it be that oxygen is slowly killing you and it just takes 75-100 years to fully work?
·         Every time you clean something, you must make something else dirty.
·         The word "swims" upside-down - is still "swims".
·         Intentionally losing a game of rock, paper, and scissors is just as hard as trying to win.
·         100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars. Today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses.
·         Have you realised that your future self is watching you right now through memories.
·          If you replace "W" with "T" in "What, Where and When", you get the answer to each of them.
·         If you rip a hole in a net, there are actually fewer holes in it than there were before.
·         If 2/2/22 falls on a Tuesday, we'll just call it "2's Day". (It does fall on a Tuesday)

Issue No 19 - Friday 8 May 2020

Sad Italian LADS LIck Yoghurt

EDITORIAL

The Victorian Premier is only a few days away from announcing our immediate future, re isolation and social distancing. Let’s hope that gives us something to smile about.

MUM’S

In the meantime, I hope all the readers who mix isolation with being a Mum can still feel the love from their children on Sunday – for Mother’s Day. Maybe you are able to pass on the love to your Special Mum.

Hopefully, phones and computers run hot and you will get promises of hugs and kisses that will be fulfilled very soon. Maybe some will score breakfast in bed.

I am sure you will identify with these sayings that many of our mothers used to say!

• You’ll thank me for this one day.
• What did your last servant die of?
• I’m only doing this for your own good.
• There’ll be no pudding until you’ve eaten everything on your plate.
• Just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t make it right.
• When in doubt - don’t!
• Have you got a clean hankie?
• Do you think I was born yesterday?
• When I was your age……
• Two wrongs don’t make a right.
• How would you feel if someone did that to you?
• I don’t care who started it……
• Ask your father.
• Do you think I’m made of money
• Because I am your mother and I say so!

Extra thanks goes to a regular contributor for that “special” & timely list.

THE TWO RONNIES – CROSSWORD

For a great laugh check out some great English humour:

CHURCH TYPOS

Thank God for the church ladies with typewriters. These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced at church services:

  • The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.
  • Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.
  • The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water. 'The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.’
  • Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.
  • Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.
  • Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.
  • For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
  • Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. They need all the help they can get.
  • Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.
  • A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.
  • At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?’ Come early and listen to our choir practice.
  • Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.
  • Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.
  • The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.
  • Pot-luck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM - prayer and medication to follow.
  • The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.
  • This evening at 7 PM there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.
  • The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the Congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.
  • Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM . Please use the back door.
  • The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the Church basement Friday at 7 PM. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.
  • Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.
  • And this one just about sums them all up The Associate Minister unveiled the church's new campaign slogan last Sunday: 'I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours.'

HUMOUR
Paddy and Seamus were late leaving the pub, and so they missed the 310 bus.
“What are we gonna do?” asked Seamus.
Across the road was the bus depot.
“I’ll tell you what.” replied Paddy, “go and pinch a bus, and we’ll drive it home.”
Seamus quickly went across, and then returned a few minutes later with a long face.
“I couldn’t see a 310 anywhere,” he said.
“Ya stuped eedjet!” yelled Paddy. “Just get a 205, and we’ll walk a block!”

Senior IRISH LADIES LIKE Yawning

EDITORIAL

A meme is a defined as a virally-transmitted photograph that is embellished with text that pokes fun at a cultural symbol or social idea.

Over the journey of the Silly Newsletter, I have seen in excess of 600 memes. There are at least eight in this blog chapter. Coupled with that I have seen countless text based jokes, stories, anecdotes and bits of information and history – not to mention 81 video clips totalling 779 MB.

Common decency does not allow me to share many of them with you - many are borderline and I have tried to err on the side of decency.

However, I have tried to include as many as I can, for our joint enjoyment.
The journey has been very enjoyable, and I thank all the people who have contributed.

There is more to come ……………

A TEXAN IN IRELAND

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers. I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back."

The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan's offer. One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder. "Is your bet still good?", asks the Irishman.

The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back. The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement.

The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?"

The Irishman replies, "Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first".
