Tuesday 12 May

  • Yesterday Premier Dan Andrews announced a slight reduction in distancing restrictions, allowing small groups of family and friends to socialise. Sporting groups of 10 are also permitted, provided that social distancing is practiced.
  • Australia has not has any COVID-19 deaths for 7 days.
  • Victoria recorded another 17 cases in the last 24 hours, for a total to date of 1509.


Friday 8 May
  • Australia has had 6914 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 6079 have recovered, 97 have died.
  • There have been 1468 cases in Victoria, in excess of 10 cases every day this week.
  • Prime Minister Scott Morrison today announced multiple stage of exiting isolation over time. Each state will  determine their own dates for the stages.

Wednesday 6 May
  • There have been 6895 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia, 97 have died and 5984 have recovered.
  • Victoria has had 1440 confirmed cases.
  • 62.8% of cases were acquired overseas.
Tuesday 5 May
  • A cluster of COVID-19 infections, in a Melbourne meat works, has been responsible for a Melbourne based spike in infections. This has resulted in Victoria confirmed cases increasing by 13, 22 and 17 in the last three days.
  • The rest of Australia has had much better results.

Sunday 3 May

  • Although most of Australia is seeing few or no news confirmed cases, Victoria reported an additional 13 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours - a total of 1384.
  • There were only 5 cases across the rest of the country.

Saturday 2 May
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,783 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia.
  • 93 people have died.
  • 1371 cases have been confirmed in Victoria, with 18 deaths.

Thursday 30 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,753 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 10 additional cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There have been seven new cases of COVID-19 in Victoria in the 24 hours to 3pm today, making a total of 52 current cases, 18 of whom are in hospital, 9 in ICU.
  • The ACT is the first state or territory to be COVID-19 free. The NT has just three known cases.

Wednesday 29 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,746 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 19 new cases since 3pm yesterday. Of the 6746 cases, around 5649 have recovered and 88 have died. 
  • There have been 1354 confirmed cases in Victoria.
  • Victorian authorities will consider the lifting of some restrictions on 11 May.

Monday 27 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,720 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 9 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There have been 2 new cases in Victoria.
  • Across the world there have been almost 3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 206,500 deaths.

Sunday 26 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,711 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 16 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There have been 3 new cases in Victoria, for a total of 1349 confirmed cases.
  • Two Australian states (WA & QLD) has announced a relxation of some of the restrictions as from tomorrow - Monday 27 April.
Saturday 25 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,695 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 20 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • Victoria has had a total of 1346 confirmed cases, 3 new cases.
  • There are less than 1270 known infected people across Australia.
  • The above is great news, but does not justify complacency.
Friday 24 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,675 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 14 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • This is an increase of just 152 cases over the last week.
  • Victoria has had a total of 1343 confirmed cases.
  • Unfortunately 78 people have died across Australia, 15 of them in the last week.
Thursday 23 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,661 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 12 new cases since 3pm yesterday, and two new cases in Victoria.

Wednesday 22 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,649 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 4 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There has been just another TWO cases in Victoria.
  • This is the lowest daily increase since early March.
  • The highest number of cases (both male and female) has occurred in the 20-29 age group.
  • Of the 6,649 confirmed cases in Australia, 74 have died and 4,761 have been reported as recovered from COVID-19. More than 452,000 tests have been conducted across Australia.

Tuesday 21 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,645 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 26 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There has been another seven cases in Victoria - a total of 1336.
  • The federal government has announced a relaxation of the restrictions that relate to "higher priority" elective operations.
Monday 20 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,619 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have only been 26 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There has only been one new case in Victoria - a total of 1329.
  • This is great news.
  • The majority of Australian confirmed cases acquired their infection overseas, including on board cruise ships or associated with recent  travel to Europe or the Americas.
  • In a further encouraging sign, about two-thirds of the confirmed cases across the country – 4268 people, to be exact – have recovered from the virus. Just 2284 are still considered active cases. That is a dramatic fall from April 4, less than three weeks ago, when active cases peaked at 4935.
Sunday 19 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,593 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 28 new cases since 3pm yesterday.
  • There have been nine new cases in Victoria - a total of 1328.

Saturday 18 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,565 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 42 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1319 cases in Victoria (17 new cases, mostly from cruise ships).
  • More than 406,000 tests have been conducted across Australia, the highest rate per unit population in the world.
  • 68 people have died in Australia.

Friday 17 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,523 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 55 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1302 cases in Victoria (1 new case).
  • Around 3750 people have recovered, or 57%.
  • Unfortunately 63 people have died.
  • In the USA, 48% of deaths have been over 75, many of whom had other contributing conditions. A further 25% were aged between 65 and 75, again many of whom had other contributing conditions. Two out of three deaths are male patients.
Thursday 16 April
  • It took 83 days for the first one million people to be infected with COVID-19. If took just 14 days for the second one million people to be infected. If someone wants a definition of "scary", I think that is a good start.
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,468 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 21 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1301 cases in Victoria (2 new cases).

Wednesday 15 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,447 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 47 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1299 cases in Victoria (8 new cases).
  • Over the last seven days new cases across Australia has increased by 434 or 7.2%. Within Victoria the increase has been 87 cases (also 7.2%).
  • Victoria has just over 20% of the cases within Australia, the same ratio as seven days ago.

Tuesday 14 April
  • As at 3pm today, there have been 6,400 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 41 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1291 cases in Victoria (10 new cases).

Monday 13 April
  • As at 3pm on 13 April 2020, there have been 6,359 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 46 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1281 cases in Victoria (13 new cases).
  • Over the last seven days new cases across Australia has increased by 654 or 9.7%. Within Victoria the increase has been 123 cases or 10.6%.
  • The curve is flattening out - but not yet flat.
Sunday 12 April 
  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 6,313 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been just 21 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1268 cases in Victoria (3 new cases).
  • Many infected Australians have started to arrive back home, some from cruise ships, and some who are finally able to get out of whatever country they were in. These infection numbers are apparently not going to be added to the above state and federal totals (as they were identified overseas).
  • More than 356,000 tests have been conducted across Australia.
  • Across the world there have been more than 1.83 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 113,200 deaths.

Saturday 11 April 
  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 6,292 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia (1.4% increase). There have been 89 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1265 cases in Victoria (2% increase).
  • 56 people have died in Australia.
  • All states of Australia have provided clear rights of passage for the Easter Bunny.

Friday 10 April - Good Friday
  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 6,203 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia (1.6% increase). There have been 100 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1241 cases in Victoria (1% increase).
  • 53 people have died. 
Thursday 9 April
  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 6,103 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia (1.5% increase). There have been 90 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1228 cases in Victoria (1.3% increase).
  • 51 people have died.
  • The signs are promising, but we still need to be vigilant.
Wednesday 8 April
  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 6,013 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia (1.8% increase). There have been 105 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1212 cases in Victoria (1.8% increase).
  • 50 people have died.

  • In Australia, as at 3pm, there have been 5,908 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia (2% increase). There have been 113 new cases since 3pm yesterday. There are 1191 cases in Victoria (1.8% increase).

  • The following chart shows a slight flattening of the curve, implying that isolation and physical separation is working.
Saturday 4 April
